The Blessed Life of Shri Swami Baldevdasji: A Journey of Complete Surrender

Dear devotees,

Let us take a peaceful pause and journey into the inspiring life of Shri Swami Baldevdasji, a saint whose every moment was offered in love at the feet of the Divine. His story is simple, yet powerful—filled with devotion, surrender, and the joy of living every day for God.

A Divine Child from Braj

Swami Baldevdasji was born in a humble home in Braj, a land blessed with Krishna's presence. Even as a child, his heart was deeply spiritual. When he lost his elder brother at just eight years old, his heart turned completely toward God. Leaving behind family and comfort, he set out alone on the path of devotion.

One day, while quietly entering a temple, he lifted the curtain in front of the deity and saw something divine—Lord Krishna Himself, no longer a statue, was sitting in front of him, enjoying the offerings as a living person. What a blessing! When the Lord chooses to reveal Himself, even rules and restrictions step aside.

The Guiding Light of a True Guru

Swamiji’s journey led him to a great saint, Thakur Dasji Maharaj, who became his Guru. Under his care, Baldevdasji learned how to serve Shri Krishna with deep love and discipline.

Though young, Swamiji’s dedication was strong. He served like a child serves his father—with complete love and no expectations. His Guru was a saint full of spiritual power. Once, by simply touching a lifeless body with his wooden sandals (khadau), he brought it back to life. Such miracles were not to show off, but to remind people of the power of faith and devotion.

The Heart Longing for God

Swamiji wasn’t satisfied with rituals alone. He wanted to feel God. Once, he saw his Guru weeping while eating. When he asked why, the Guru gently said, "My dear, when I eat, my Gopalji sits beside me and eats from my plate. How can I not cry?"

Hearing this, Swamiji realized that God is not far. He is close—very close—to the heart that truly calls Him.

A Devotee Wandering in Love

Swamiji later traveled to the four sacred dhams and finally settled in Vrindavan, the land of Radha and Krishna. There, he found great joy in satsang with rasik saints like Mohandasji. They often got lost in divine talks about Krishna’s playful pastimes.

They spoke of how Krishna would steal butter—not out of hunger, but to enjoy the Gopis’ love and teasing. And how Radha Rani would pretend to complain to Yashoda Maiya, only to smile when Krishna was lovingly scolded.

They also remembered the Rasa Leela—how Radha disappeared to teach Krishna that no love compares to hers. These tales were more than stories; they opened the door to divine love and longing.

Lessons from the Beyond

During one parikrama, Swamiji unknowingly took food from spirits disguised as saints. Later, he learned they were souls stuck in ghostly forms due to misusing temple wealth meant for Krishna. They shared that although they stayed in Vrindavan, they were denied higher realms due to their actions.

From this, Swamiji—and we—learned that offerings made to God are sacred. Misusing them brings heavy consequences.

The Final Blessing: Service Forever

Through deep devotion, Swamiji was gifted the highest blessing—Siddhi as a Manjari, a close handmaiden of Radha Rani in the spiritual world. There, he began serving the Divine Couple throughout the day and night in Ashtakalin Seva.

Even then, his humility never faded. Wanting to pass on his legacy, he received a divine nudge to visit Bahadarpur, where he met his true disciple, the one chosen to carry his light forward.

What Swamiji Teaches Us

Dear devotees, here are the precious truths Swamiji’s life shares with us:

  • Offer your body, mind, and wealth at the feet of the Lord with love.

  • Sadhana is more than practice—it is remembering God with longing and faith.

  • When we sacrifice for Dharma, we reduce past karma and grow closer to divine grace.

  • Every talent we have is a gift—let us use it in the service of God, not ego.

Saints like Swamiji remind us: when we live for God, He begins to live through us.

A Simple Prayer from Our Hearts

"O Shri Radha Rani, O Krishna, let everything we do be pleasing to You. Bless us with remembrance, let us serve You with joy, and may we, like Swami Baldevdasji, become instruments of Your divine love."

Let us walk this path of devotion with love and simplicity. May Swamiji's life inspire us to live not just for ourselves—but for the eternal joy of being close to God.

Night as Temple: Meditation in Sleep

Introduction: Transforming Sleep into a Sacred Practice

In today’s restless world, sleep is often seen merely as a necessity—a passive activity where the mind shuts down and the body restores. But what if sleep could become an active gateway to spiritual awakening? Paramhansa Yogananda, one of the most revered spiritual masters of the 20th century, revealed a divine truth: our deepest awareness can be accessed not in action, but in rest. This blog explores how to turn every night into a meditative journey and every dream into a divine whisper.

Stage 1: Preparing the Sacred Space

The transformation begins with a simple but profound ritual. At least 20 minutes before bed, create a quiet, undisturbed environment. Turn off your phone, dim the lights, and sit or lie down with intention. Begin by telling yourself, "Tonight, I am not going to sleep. I am going to meet my soul."

Progressively relax your body: start with your feet and work upward, gently saying to each part, "Now rest." This mindful bodily scan prepares the physical self to enter a deeper dimension of peace.

Stage 2: Breath as Bridge to the Soul

Breath is more than biology; it is the bridge between the physical and the spiritual. Begin deep, slow breathing. With every exhale, let go of tension, stress, and worry. Mentally chant the word "Shanti" (peace) until it resonates within. As Paramhansa Yogananda taught, if you can ride the breath consciously, you will reach the soul.

Stage 3: The Inner Smile and Ajna Focus

Now bring your awareness to the Ajna Chakra—the space between your eyebrows. Imagine a soft smile forming there, as if your soul is seated and smiling gently. Let that smile radiate through your entire being. This is the Inner Smile technique. It is not imagination; it is the light of your soul awakening within.

Stage 4: Witnessing the Descent into Sleep

Most people lose awareness as sleep approaches. This practice trains you to remain a witness. As you begin to doze, repeat: "I am not this sleep; I am the soul observing it." Let sleep come naturally, but keep a gentle awareness alive. This is the threshold of Ratri Samadhi—a meditative sleep where the body rests but the spirit remains conscious.

Use the Om technique: mentally chant “Om” with each breath. Let its vibration dissolve bodily boundaries. Sleep becomes no longer unconscious but luminous.

Stage 5: Dream Awareness and Lucid Contact

In this deep state, dreams begin to shift. Instead of chaotic visuals, you may encounter calm images, symbols, or guidance. These are not ordinary dreams—they are spiritual messages. Set a pre-sleep intention: "If I dream, may it be a meeting with my soul or my divine guide."

With daily practice, you may develop lucid dreams where you become aware within the dream. Here, ask, "Who am I? Show me my true nature." These dreams become divine encounters.

Stage 6: Ego Dissolution and Cosmic Identity

To go further, practice ego-death visualization. Imagine a bright light dissolving your body, thought by thought. See yourself as pure consciousness, free from name, form, and past. You are not your worries or identity. You are the eternal presence.

As Yogananda said, "You are not the doer. Let go. Let God.”

Stage 7: Morning Stillness Integration

Do not rush into the day. Upon waking, keep your eyes closed and recall any dreams or feelings. Say inwardly, "Thank you for the night’s guidance." Sit in silence for five minutes. This morning stillness is the anchor that integrates the night’s spiritual energy into your daily life.

Stage 8: Carrying Meditation into the Day

The true test of this practice lies in the day that follows. Carry your awareness through every action: listen to the sound of your steps, feel the breath as you move, treat every word as sacred. Practice Flash Meditations—pause for 30 seconds at intervals during the day to return to the inner stillness you cultivated at night.

Stage 9: Nightly Reflection and Renewal

Before bed, reflect on your day. Ask yourself: "Did I remain aware today? Did I forget my inner peace? Am I ready to return to the temple of night?" Watch your day like a movie—not with judgment, but with love. Then re-enter your meditative sleep practice with grace.

Conclusion: The Sacred Cycle of Sleep and Awakening

When practiced daily, this sacred rhythm transforms sleep into a temple, dreams into teachings, and waking life into awareness. Eventually, the separation between day and night, waking and sleeping, dissolves. You realize that meditation is not something you do. It is something you become.

As Paramhansa Yogananda said, "You are not finding God. God is finding you." And He does, in the silence of your sleep, when your soul is finally listening.

Let night be your temple. Let sleep be your prayer. Let awareness be your constant companion.

The Timeless Wisdom of the Guru-Shishya Tradition

The Timeless Wisdom of the Guru-Shishya Tradition

Dear Devotees,

Welcome to this satsang... and as we gather here, my thoughts turn to the profound, timeless wisdom of the Guru-Shishya tradition. It's not just an ancient practice, you know? It's the very foundation of our spiritual journey, the light that guides us, that leads us to the divine.

Think about it... this tradition, it's the sacred relationship between an enlightened teacher, the Guru, and a devoted disciple, the Shishya. It's the vehicle... the conduit... through which divine knowledge, wisdom, and grace are transmitted. It's what fosters our spiritual growth, and ultimately, guides us to God. It's not just about passing down information, you see. It's a transformative connection, a spark that awakens the divine within us.

And in this tradition, the Guru's grace... ah, that is paramount. It's not something given lightly, or without reason. It's bestowed upon those who show sincere devotion, humility... a genuine willingness to surrender to the Guru's guidance, to let go and trust.

In this Satsang, let's explore the life and teachings of Swami Ramakrishna Paramhansa. In this Kaliyuga, the age we find ourselves in now, he stands as a shining example, doesn't he? A beacon for all of us spiritual seekers.

Look at his life... his devotion. His intense yearning, his ব্যাকুলতা, for a direct experience of the Divine Mother, কালী... it was so profound, so absolute, that she revealed herself to him! He was granted her divine appearance. What does this teach us? The power of a deep and relentless pursuit of the divine.

And then, his detachment... Swami Ramakrishna renounced worldly wealth, practiced strict celibacy. He saw every woman as an embodiment of the Divine Mother, demonstrating a profound spiritual vision, a detachment that's hard for us to even imagine. It reminds us, doesn't it, to look beyond the material, to see the divine in everyone, in everything.

And his disciple, Swami Vivekananda...

Swami Vivekananda's Tribute to His Guru

...Ah, Swami Vivekananda. He didn't just share his Guru's teachings; he lived them, he breathed them, he carried that torch and set the world ablaze with its light. His words about his Guru, they weren't mere lectures; they were outpourings of a heart overflowing with love and reverence.

He spoke of Swami Ramakrishna as the embodiment of all the prophets, all the avatars. Imagine that! He saw in his Guru not just a great teacher, but the culmination of all spiritual wisdom. He would say, "He is the concentrated embodiment of all previous incarnations."

Vivekananda described his Guru's life as a testament to the harmony of all religions. Ramakrishna didn't just talk about it; he lived it. He practiced different faiths, followed different paths, and realized the same truth in each of them. Vivekananda emphasized this tirelessly, the idea that all paths lead to the same God.

And the power of his Guru's purity! Vivekananda often spoke of the unparalleled purity of Ramakrishna's character. He saw him as a living example of renunciation, of self-control, of unwavering devotion. This purity, Vivekananda believed, was the source of his Guru's immense spiritual power.

He wasn't just transmitting knowledge, you see. Vivekananda said that his Guru's very presence was transformative. To be near him was to be elevated, to be purified. He felt that his Guru's words had the power to penetrate the deepest layers of one's being, to awaken the dormant divinity within.

Vivekananda spoke of his own transformation. He, a young, fiery, skeptical mind, was humbled and transformed by the sheer force of his Guru's love and wisdom. He often said that he owed everything he was, everything he had achieved, to the grace of his Guru.

And there was that extraordinary incident in America. When he was speaking about his Gurudev... he was overcome with emotion. He fell silent for nearly ten minutes, and tears streamed down his face. That wasn't just a speech, my dear devotees. It was a moment of profound connection, a testament to the unbreakable bond between Guru and Shishya. It spoke volumes about the depth of his love, his reverence, his utter surrender.

He emphasized the importance of direct experience, অনুভূ?তি (Anubhuti). He wasn't content with mere intellectual understanding. He wanted to see God, to feel God, and his Guru showed him the way. Vivekananda carried this message to the world: that spiritual realization is not a distant dream, but a tangible reality, attainable through sincere devotion and practice.

In essence, Vivekananda's lectures about his Guru were a call to awaken, a call to seek that direct experience of the divine. He urged people to look beyond dogma and ritual, and to strive for that personal connection with the truth.

His message was clear: the Guru is not just a teacher, but a guide, a friend, a polestar in the journey of life. And in Swami Ramakrishna, he saw the perfect embodiment of that ideal.

Stories from the life of Ramakrishna

To further illuminate the extraordinary nature of Sri Ramakrishna, let me share a few stories from his life:

  • Ramakrishna's parents: Ramakrishna's parents, Kshudiram Chattopadhyaya and Chandramani Devi, were known for their piety and virtuous conduct.

  • Ramakrishna's early life: I've heard it said that Ramakrishna exhibited extraordinary spiritual tendencies from his childhood. He experienced divine ecstasies and visions that set him apart from ordinary children. He was born to devout parents, and even as a young boy, he would become overwhelmed by divine emotions during religious plays and festivals.

  • Ramakrishna and his wife: Ramakrishna was married to Sarada Devi. Their relationship was unique; he regarded her as an embodiment of the Divine Mother. There is a significant incident where he worshipped Sarada Devi as the goddess Kali, demonstrating his profound spiritual view of women.

  • And then, his detachment...

  • Ramakrishna's acceptance of suffering: Even when faced with the suffering of throat cancer, Ramakrishna's devotion to the Divine Mother, Kali, remained unwavering. When a devotee suggested he pray to Kali for a cure, he responded that Kali was fully aware of his condition and what was best for him. He completely surrendered to her will, demonstrating a profound acceptance of suffering as part of the divine plan.

  • Vivekananda's test: There is also the story of how Swami Vivekananda, in his younger days, tested his Guru. He placed a silver coin under his pillow, and Ramakrishna, upon lying down, experienced the sensation of an electric shock. This incident revealed Ramakrishna's extraordinary sensitivity and his ability to perceive things beyond the ordinary realm, confirming for Vivekananda the extent of his Guru's spiritual powers.

  • Ramakrishna's intense desire for the vision of God: I've heard it said that Ramakrishna had an intense desire for a vision of God. His longing was so great that it drove him to practice intense austerity.

  • Ramakrishna's vision of goddess Kali: It's also said that Ramakrishna's devotion led to a direct vision of the goddess Kali.

  • Ramakrishna's attainment of Nirvikalpa Samadhi: And that Ramakrishna attained Nirvikalpa Samadhi, the highest state of spiritual absorption.

  • Swami Vivekananda at the Parliament of Religions: Swami Vivekananda's address at the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893 is a landmark event.

    • The Parliament was a gathering of religious leaders from around the world, held in conjunction with the World's Columbian Exposition. It was an attempt to promote dialogue and understanding between different faiths.

    • Vivekananda's opening address, beginning with the now famous words "Sisters and Brothers of America," immediately captivated the audience. He spoke eloquently about the principles of Vedanta philosophy, the importance of religious tolerance, and the universality of all religions.

    • The audience was deeply moved by Vivekananda's words. He received a standing ovation that lasted for several minutes. His message of universal brotherhood and acceptance resonated with people of all backgrounds, and he became an instant celebrity. The speech is widely regarded as a watershed moment in the history of interfaith dialogue and is credited with significantly raising awareness of Hinduism in the Western world.

It was this extraordinary being, the embodiment of divine love and wisdom, that Vivekananda served with boundless devotion.

So, my dear devotees, it's not enough to just listen to these teachings, to nod our heads in agreement. To truly benefit, we must integrate them into our daily lives, make them a part of who we are, of our very being.

The Guru has shown us the path, yes, but now it's up to us to walk it. To embody these truths. Here are some key practices... practices that can help us receive that divine grace:

  • Chanting (নাম জপ): The repetitive and devotional recitation of the divine name... let it resonate within you.

  • Attending Satsangs (সৎসঙ্গ): Gathering with like-minded seekers, listening to discourses, singing devotional songs, engaging in spiritual fellowship... finding strength and inspiration in community.

  • Sacrifice (ত্যাগ): Renouncing selfish desires, offering our time, energy, resources in service of a higher purpose... letting go of what binds us.

  • Cultivating Love (প্রেম): Developing unconditional love, for God, yes, but also for all beings... seeing the divine in every heart.

  • Removing Faults (দোষ দূর করা): Working to eliminate those negative qualities within us... ego, anger, greed, attachment... those things that cloud our vision and hinder our progress.

Embrace these practices. Purify your hearts. Cultivate devotion. Open yourselves to receive the Guru's grace. For it is that grace that ultimately leads us to the realization of the Divine, to that union we all seek.

May we all be guided by the light of this timeless tradition, the Guru-Shishya parampara, and may we all attain the ultimate goal of our spiritual journey.

Hari Om.

The Unwavering Devotion of Hanuman

Dear devotees, welcome to this holy gathering, this satsang, where we talk about Hanumanji's endless devotion and timeless wisdom.

Today, as we've all come together, let's remember what festivals mean in our lives. They're not just about having fun, lighting diyas, and sharing mithai. No, my dear devotees, they have a deeper meaning. They're a divine chance to increase our faith and love for God. It's a time to express our heartfelt gratitude for the countless blessings we've received – like every breath we take, the love around us, and the chance to walk this spiritual path.

And who better to take as an example than Hanumanji? Who could be a more radiant guide for us? He was the very embodiment of devotion, Shri Ram's most steadfast and unwavering servant. In his every thought, word, and deed, Hanumanji showed a love and surrender that's beyond all understanding. He's like a light that shows the way for all seekers of truth.

My dear devotees, remember this: God doesn't just like devotees like Hanumanji; He loves them very, very much. He cherishes them, protects them, and keeps them close to His heart. And if we also want to get closer to God's feet, if we also want to develop that same deep love and surrender, then the path is clear. The most important part of this journey is to immerse ourselves more and more in the sacred practice of 'naam jap' – constantly and sincerely chanting God's name.

Let's take a moment to think about Hanumanji's unwavering commitment to this sacred practice. Even during war, when the earth itself seemed to tremble, his meditation and chanting continued like an unbroken stream. Even while carrying the huge responsibility of protecting Sugriv, his mind remained fixed on the divine name, his heart filled with its sacred melody.

Just think about it, my dear ones. Even during the difficult and dangerous search for Sita, a task that needed immense courage, strength, and unwavering patience, Hanumanji, after finishing his duties, would look for moments of solitude. He would go to a quiet corner, away from the noise and distractions of the world, and there, in the stillness of his heart, he would lovingly immerse himself in the divine vibrations of God's holy name. This wasn't just a ritual for him; it was the very essence of his existence, the source of his boundless strength, his unwavering determination, and his infinite compassion.

And what profound wisdom did Hanumanji himself share with the world about the power of this divine name? He declared with absolute certainty, with the authority of someone who had experienced its transformative power firsthand, that it's the key to liberation. Not just in some distant future, after we leave this mortal body, but even while we're alive and breathing in this world, while we walk on this earth, we can attain freedom from the bonds of illusion. Moreover, he revealed that this path of devotion, this unwavering focus on the divine name, is a path of love, a path of surrender, a path that's free from the suffering that often comes with other spiritual efforts. It's a path of pure joy, of true bliss, of becoming one with God.

Throughout his life, Hanumanji was a strong pillar of support for Shri Ram and Lakshman, offering his selfless service and constant protection in countless trials and tribulations. He was their shield, their strength, their constant companion.

Remember the epic story of building the bridge to Lanka? A feat that defied all logic and reason, a testament to the power of faith and devotion. Every stone that Hanumanji lovingly touched, on which he wrote Shri Ram's sacred name, defied the laws of nature and floated on the vast ocean. This miraculous act is a powerful and lasting proof of the power of unwavering faith and devotion, of the transformative power of the divine name.

Here, we have a very touching story shared with us, a story that further explains this deep truth. It's said that a stone thrown into the water by Shri Ram himself, a stone filled with divine energy, sank beneath the waves. Yet, those very stones that carried His sacred name, those stones that were touched by Hanumanji's love and devotion, floated effortlessly. This beautiful and moving example highlights the immense power that lies within devotion, within the heartfelt remembrance of the Divine. It's not just the outward action, but the inner state, the love and faith that go with it, that hold the key to transformation, to self-realization.

And so, my dear devotees, let's now take a moment for a brief but deeply meaningful virtual pilgrimage. Let's turn our hearts and minds towards a sacred abode of Hanumanji, located in the city of Jaipur in Rajasthan. This holy temple, this sanctuary of devotion, came into being through the dedicated and persistent efforts of a devoted soul, Pandit Radhelal Choubey. His unwavering faith, his tireless service, and his profound love for Hanumanji brought this sacred space into existence, a place where countless devotees can now gather, offer their prayers, and seek Hanumanji's blessings.

For a few precious moments, please close your eyes, my dear devotees, and allow your minds to travel to the serene and sacred atmosphere of this temple. Visualize yourselves standing in the divine presence of Hanumanji. Feel the sacred vibrations that fill the air, the palpable sense of devotion that fills every corner. Offer your deepest prayers, your heartfelt gratitude, and your unwavering reverence to this embodiment of devotion and strength. Let your hearts be filled with the purity, the selflessness, and the boundless love that Hanumanji so perfectly represents.

Reflect deeply, my dear ones, on the very essence of Hanumanji's life: his boundless and unwavering devotion to his Lord, his constant readiness to make any sacrifice, no matter how great, for the sake of the Divine, and his ceaseless, unbroken remembrance of the sacred name. Let his extraordinary example serve as a guiding light on our own spiritual journeys. May we all be blessed with even a small amount of that steadfast devotion, that unwavering faith, that pure and selfless love. May we all strive to follow his virtues, to cultivate his humility, and to surrender ourselves completely to the will of the Divine.

May Hanumanji's blessings always be with us. Hari Om!
